On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was pressed by Daily Caller White House correspondent Diana Glebova regarding where illegal immigrants should be sent if not to Democrat cities.
Amid repeated criticisms from the White House regarding Republican border state governors sending migrants to Democratic-led “sanctuary cities,” Glebova asked Jean-Pierre where illegal migrants should be relocated.
During the morning press briefing, Glebova asked: “You’ve condemned governors sending migrants to various cities across the country, but where should officials who are overwhelmed by the of migrants coming into their cities and into their shelters, where should they send the migrants?”
Jean-Pierre did not answer the question but replied:
“We have said many times before, there’s a process, a legal process, and that we are willing to work with cities who are dealing with this issue.”
The press secretary continued: “What we have seen from governors is that they are using migrants as a political tool. That’s not the way to do it. And they’re sending migrants, as we’ve seen the last several months, the last several weeks, they’re sending migrants without letting city officials know, without letting the federal government know.”
Watch:
“And what they do is they call TV news stations to be there, to capture this moment and use it as a political stunt,” Jean Pierre added. “And so we will continue to call that out, but we are willing, we are willing and open to work with cities that are dealing with this issue.”
Criticism from the White House has not deterred Republican Govs. Greg Abbott of Texas, Doug Ducey of Arizona and Ron DeSantis of Florida from relocating illegal migrants to northern liberal cities and vowing to keep bussing migrants until the Biden administration makes significant steps to close the open border.
Gov, Abbot said in April: “We are sending them to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”
Abbot’s relocation efforts have been joined by Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has sent busses of immigrants to New York and two planes (about 50 migrants) to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, in September.
